How We Can Help.

LEGAL PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES

  • Our psychologists use a variety of frameworks to understand your experience and story... +
This requires us to develop an understanding of how you see yourself and the world, as well as how you got there. These 'formulations' change across time as we get to know you better and as changes start to occur. At Black Locust Psychology, these formulations are deeper than only looking at symptoms. Please reach out for more information either general or technical.
  • We Create Your Treatment Plan and Areas to Focus On... +
The formulation highlights treatment targets, or areas to focus on. These plans involve goals around understanding, experiencing something different, integrating difficult experiences, and developing capacity to live how you'd like in the future. We also incorporate skills and a focus on behavior changes when indicated, but always in the context of deepening understanding and experience. The plan also includes ideas about how to achieve these goals. Our psychologists use a blend of creative and individually tailored approaches informed by evidence and practice.
  • We Reflect and Adjust, Updating our Formulation as Needed... +
As we write notes after each session we re-evaluate and update our formulation and plan regularly. Every session uncovers new information and changes the dynamics, which must be understood and integrated. Each of our psychologists is also encouraged to attend a weekly consultation session, where our team discusses cases to ensure we're not missing our own blind spots. Even psychologists fall into traps around assumptions and minimizing our emotions without outside help.
